Some say that plastic bags are only 2% of the total plastic, and there is no point in reducing them. However, it is a very big problem for deer in Nara. Many plastic bags are found in the stomach of the deceased deer. A deer accidentally eats a plastic bag, which causes it to die. Plastic bags, especially those with a smell of food, are a weapon for deer.

It is sad to see such lovely beasts in such a sterile captive environment. Your point on plastic is well taken.

@Harry: These mothers and children are protected here from the violent species, human beings.

Un peu trop nombreux dans cet enclos ! La seule solution pour les sauver...

even 2% is an enormous amount of plastic and it it is a major contributor to the non recyclable contents of our bins here. There is an appalling lack of urgency on the part of both government and commerce to confront the problem.
A nice group portrait

Excellent look at these beautiful animals. I think it is time we realize their life would be better free and not in cages.

How sad about the plastic bags. Plastic is the enemy of so many animals. These deers look so sweet and content

I read it in the paper, indeed a big problem that plastic waste for the deer but also for the fish in the sea.

11 Jun 2019 6:12pm

@Willem: indeed. I don't want to eat fish who eat plastics.

A beautiful and tender image of these quiet animals. In contrast to the current and worrying text. It is not only the "Deer of Nara" that are victims of plastic bags, so many others ... like whales and dolphins.
