The Ryu is watching over people.

Posted by
Hiro (Kyoto, Japan) on 7 August 2017 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Japanese word "龍" (Ryu) is translated into English as "Dragon". But Ryu is much different from European Dragon. European Dragon is a fierce wild creature and should be defeated. On the other hand, Ryu, which is imported from China, is a God. It may be strict, but not fierce.
Ryu is popular subject matter of the paintings in Buddhist temples. 天龍寺, one of the most famous temples in Kyoto, whose name includes the letter "龍", has a Ryu painting. The Ryu is watching over people.

The best dragons! I love your superb photo. In Hong Kong, a building has a large hole in it to allow the dragons to move about freely.
