祇園祭 Gion Festival is one of the three biggest festivals in Japan. Its history is longer than 1,000 yeras. The parades were performed 2 times originaly. The former was on July 17 and the latter on July 24. Kyoto city administration united the two parades into one in 1966 because they took the road traffic situation and the tourism policy into consideration. However, some evils came to seen with lapse of time. Making an occasion reconstruction of one float which disappered by war 150 years ago, The parede was devided into original two this year. The revived float 大船鉾, which has ship shape, appeared in the last of the latter parade held on July 24.
