Japan Football Classics #2

Posted by
Hiro (Kyoto, Japan) on 6 July 2011 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

This football like sport is called 蹴鞠 Kemari. Several players forming circle kick the ball not to drop it on the ground. The white ball is made of deerskin. This sport was popular in Japan during Heian era (A.D. 794 - 1192), I heard. The players in this picture are members of Kemari preservation society.
