"I learn only to be contented." #2

Posted by
Hiro (Kyoto, Japan) on 21 June 2011 in Food & Cuisine and Portfolio.

Do you remember the Tsukubai which I showed yesterday ?
You can see 4 Chinese characters clearer than yesterday's.
The basin is not only famous for its unique design of 4 Chinese characters' sharing a part, but also its unique inscription of the characters, which means "He who learns only to be contented is spiritually rich while the one who does not learn to be contented is spiritually poor even if he is materially wealthy". This concept is important in the Zen philosophy and also one of the spirits of the Tea ceremony.
Anyway, I was contented after I ate the sweets.
Happy ST !

They look like two Japanese sweets on that plate with earthen colours... I like the closeup!
